Smith & Sons Custom Run – Badlands Blackout Apex

This Custom Shop run of the Apex brings a rugged new look to one of our most capable field knives. Featuring a blackout forced patina* Magnacut blade and Badlands Burlap Micarta handles, each knife combines practical performance with striking, earthy aesthetics. The handle material blends natural burlap and black layering with a deep rust-red resin, hand-sanded to a smooth, comfortable finish that feels as good as it looks.

Built from CPM Magnacut, a steel celebrated for its elite edge retention and corrosion resistance, this edition of the Apex is made to perform wherever it’s put to work...from the backcountry to the workbench.

*BLACKOUT FORCED PATINA: A forced patina finish is just that, a controlled method of forcing a patina to form on the steel's surface, and is not a manmade coating. The blade will lighten/darken in some areas with use, which is expected, intentional, and part the charm of owning a forced patina blade. Your knife's patina will evolve as you use it, meaning every knife will develope its own look and personality.
