Smith & Sons Custom Run – Blackout Brave (Badlands Burlap)

This Custom Shop run of the Brave pairs the do-it-all design you know and love with a blackout, forced patina Magnacut blade and Badlands Burlap Micarta handles. Hand-sanded to a smooth, comfortable finish, this unique handle material blends natural burlap and black layering with a deep rust-red resin, giving each knife a look that’s rugged, earthy, and one-of-a-kind.

Built from CPM Magnacut—a steel known for its elite edge retention and corrosion resistance—this version of the Brave is made to perform under pressure, whether you’re deep in the backcountry or just getting things done close to home.

Offered with your choice of black kydex or several leather sheath options, each knife is  finished in-house with the attention to detail our Custom Shop is known for.

Build Notes:

Spine Options: The Brave comes standard with a Blackout Forced Patina spine to match the blade. If you choose the 90-degree spine upgrade, the entire perimeter of the knife—including the spine and choil—will feature a satin finish for added utility and contrast.

Badlands Burlap Micarta naturally varies in color from batch to batch—and even from knife to knife. That’s part of what makes it so rich in character. This run leans toward reddish tones, compared to the more orange hues seen in earlier versions. Be sure to check all product photos to get a sense of the range you can expect.

Blackout Forced Patina: This is a controlled process that encourages a natural patina to form on the blade’s surface. It’s not a manmade coating, and the finish will naturally shift and evolve with use, giving each blade a truly individual look over time.
