We’re excited to introduce the Founder’s Series (more info below)—a new line showcasing the heart of Smith & Sons. Built in small batches, every knife in this series reflects our roots as knifemakers with exceptional materials, finishes, and a hands-on approach from our three founding knifemakers.

Leading the second batch of the Rambler pre-order is the Rambler Renegade Blackout—a premium EDC featuring our Renegade burlap micarta handle and a Blackout Forced Patina finish*. Sized perfectly between our Axiom and Brave models, this knife blends everyday utility with artisan craftsmanship.

The Rambler Renegade Blackout features:

• Steel: CPM MagnaCut, hand-ground and hand-finished in-house.
• Blade Finish: Blackout Forced Patina*
• Handle: Renegade Burlap Micarta
• Satin-finished flush 90-degree spine and hand-sanded handles treated with beeswax.
• Vertical leather sheath handmade in-house.

What is the Founder's Series?

Smith & Sons was founded on crafting high-quality custom knives, one at a time. While our production and custom shop lines have grown over the years, our roots as custom knifemakers remain at the heart of everything we do. The new Founder’s Series represents a return to those roots—a way to showcase our passion for the craft through both small-batch releases and one-of-a-kind creations.

Each knife in this series receives the dedicated attention of our three founding knifemakers, ensuring an extraordinary level of craftsmanship and care. From hand-ground blades to custom finishes and exotic materials, every detail reflects decades of experience and a commitment to excellence.

Whether it’s a one-off design, a fully functional prototype, or a model too intricate for mass production, the Founder’s Series highlights what sets Smith & Sons apart—knives that balance artistry, craftsmanship, and functionality. This is more than a collection of knives—it’s a testament to what we do best.

*NOTE: A forced patina finish is just that, a controlled method of forcing a patina to form on the steel's surface, and is not a manmade coating. The blade will lighten/darken in some areas with use, which is expected, intentional, and part the charm of owning a forced patina blade. Your knife's patina will evolve as you use it, meaning every knife will develope its own look and personality.
